we are B.
I always believed that as a kid, you truly know what you want to do in life. As a kid you’re not influenced by external factors, this all comes later. External factors are things like status, what your parents or teachers want you to do, what others think, but also what others think you’re good at. As a kid, I knew I wanted to do something with drawing or design, which is why I became a graphic designer in the first place. I decided to leave B. after working here for 3,5 years. It’s time to reconnect with the kid who expressed his creativity purely without judgment from others.
My journey at B. started with an internship at B.’s former design agency Lefhebbers – Brand Design, which is still on the third floor in B.1. I was 17 at the time. Being young and in this position is cool and challenging, I’ve learned so many things during my time at B. and Lefhebbers. But at the same time, I have the feeling that being young was also a motivation to keep doing what I was doing. When others tell you, you’re good at something and you’re successful for your age, it’s a driver. Those are the external factors. That’s why I decided to take a step back, to get bored and find my own visual style again. To see what really drives the inner kid.
“Nothing excites me more than working with people that are good at what they do”
In the future, I don’t see myself just taking on assignments and giving them back to clients. I see myself selling my design as a service or a product. I don’t think I would work for a boss, although one of the favorite things about working at B. was the team. Nothing excites me more than working with people that are good at what they do. When we were smaller, I did a lot of things myself. Now, I see our photographer doing the most creative stuff and really think “wow, this makes all of my work so much better” and that gives me so much energy. The same for the environment of B., the people, the ecosystem, the energy, it has learned me that these are the things that are really valuable to me and will be important in my future career.
