// Build your own text classifier in one day with IBM
You want to classify your text or image data but you struggle to find the right tools? During Let’s Startup 2019, AI-expert Damiaan Zwietering will help you build a working prototype using IBM’s cloud-based Natural Language Classifier. Just bring your laptop and a data set to get a headstart in structuring large text and image data sets. It’s that easy.

A chat with Damiaan Zwietering, Developer Advocate & Data Science at IBM Digital Business, about his workshop “Build your own text classifier”.
What’s IBM Digital Business about?
,,I started working at IBM right after studying Artificial Intelligence because they were building some of the first AI-applications. This was 25 years ago, so I was very early to a field that is now growing at an incredible pace. After many years working in technical and client-faced roles, I am now supporting IBM’s cloud based AI-tools for the Digital Business Unit. It feels like being back in my domain. Because of the growth of computing power, our tools can do things that were unimaginable when I was still at university. I love showing developers how to use them.”
What are your plans for Let’s Startup 2019?
,,Startups often think they need to built data classification tools themselves and they spend too much time and money on it. They overlook tools that are readily available and are good enough to build a working prototype. In my workshop we will take the example of incoming support tickets and work with IBM’s Natural Language Classifier to build something together. You don’t need to have huge sets of texts because the classifier is pre-trained in major languages across several domains. We focus on text classification because this is currently a bit overlooked but there is a lot of valuable information available.
What’s in it for attendees?
The workshop is most interesting for developers and CTO’s because they will be using our tools. At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to build something with IBM’s Natural Language Classifier by themselves. You will know if our tools are right for you because you can make a business case immediately. So bring your laptop and be prepared to build something cool.
